How we review county office searches
PropertyInsight helps you identify the responsible office and find its official search destination. We are an independent directory, not a government office. You can follow official links without a PropertyInsight account.
Three different kinds of evidence
- Source review
- We review the office's published instructions and search controls. Listed inputs and steps describe what the source supports; they do not mean every search has been completed.
- Technical reachability
- A dated request checks whether a destination responds. A successful response does not establish that the correct search works. A blocked request does not prove that a human cannot use the website.
- Functional search check
- A completed check is limited to the task and input method shown, such as an assessment search by address. It does not verify every input, every historical record, payment processing, ownership or title. Blocked, inconclusive and untested checks remain labeled that way.
Dates refer to those reviews and checks, not the freshness or completeness of any property record. These pages do not run a new portal search when you open them.
Coverage and responsibility
Directory links cover more places than the detailed search instructions. We publish task-specific guidance only where we have a reviewed disposition. Missing guidance means we have not established the answer; it does not mean the records or online service do not exist.
Office names and responsibilities vary. A municipal assessor may cover only a city, and a county-equivalent may use a different form of government. Read the responsibility label and confirm the property's jurisdiction before searching.
Tax bills, payment records, assessments, parcel maps and recorded documents answer different questions. Some document indexes require a recorded-party name, document number or other identifier. We do not assume they accept an address.
Restrictions and unavailable records
Official portals may require registration, payment, terms acceptance or a CAPTCHA. We do not bypass restrictions, create accounts or purchase access as part of these directory reviews. A free search may still charge for copies or payment processing. Check the office's current terms and fees.
When the source says records are unavailable online, we preserve that limitation and point to its information or contact page. An unsuccessful search never establishes that no document, lien, payment or other record exists.
Updates and corrections
Search guidance is tied to the destination reviewed. Changing that destination invalidates the earlier review; restoring an old link does not restore its verification. Cached pages may briefly show an earlier review. Use the displayed dates and confirm time-sensitive questions with the responsible office.
To report a broken link or incorrect instruction, contact us with the county, state, office, page link and what needs correcting. Please do not send private property records or account credentials. Corrections are reviewed before publication, and a responding replacement page alone does not earn a completed-search claim.
How we measure directory use
With analytics consent, county pages send anonymous counts of page views and clicks on official office links. We also count public lookup response categories. Daily totals contain only public county and office identifiers, event categories and a broad referral category. These counters store no cookies, visitor identifiers, property addresses, full referrers or browsing histories. We honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. Existing security and abuse controls operate separately.
Counts are events, not unique people or proof that an official search succeeded. Consent choices, blocked requests, rate limits and service failures can leave gaps. Official links work directly even when measurement or JavaScript is unavailable.
Independent research guidance
Official links open directly on the destination site. PropertyInsight does not control its availability, results or fees. Confirm decision-critical facts with the responsible office or a qualified professional. This directory is not a title search, legal opinion or government determination.
Instructions for an official portal do not establish that the same records are available inside PropertyInsight. How our property data works.
